The law
Falconry and the law
Hawking has been
illegal in Denmark since 1967. Until the the re-evaluation of the Danish
hunting law in 1994, the Danish falconers worked intensively for the
reintroduction of hawking, and almost succeeded.
The Danish falconers are now forced to practice their passion in other
countrys, which they do frequently. Most visited countrys are England, Scotland
and Germany.
In 1994 the strictest law in the world concerning Birds of Prey in
captivity was introduced in Denmark. All Birds of Prey have to be microchipped,
close ringed, and have a bloodsample taken for DNA testing for identity and
origen.
In 1994 the authorities also introduced a ban on keeping any indigenous
species for falconry purposes. The goal from the authorities was to dam the
keeping of Birds of Prey in captivity and minimize the risk of illegal
purchased birds.
This new law did make it
impossible to purchase a Bird of Prey, only if they are indigenous.
